photo book + redscaled film + prints

42.00 - 50.00 — Sold out

This is a bundle of the 'a systematic redscale review' book together with one film redscaled by me and 3 photo prints from the corresponding film. ISO of the Portra film might vary (160, 400 or 800). The photos are matte, approximately 15x22.5 cm in size, and have a white border.

'a systematic redscale review' is a photo book exploring the redscale technique. 'Redscale' is an experimental technique in film photography in which the analog film is exposed through its backside, creating red hues most of the time - hence the name. This is the English version of the book. The book has a DIN A4 format.

The redscale technique is explained in the first part of the book. There is a tutorial on how to redscale films yourself, but also ready-to-buy redscaled films are introduced. On 20 of the total 160 pages tips and beginner-friendly information about the technique are shared.
Not all film stocks look the same when redscaled! Therefore, on the other pages, 50 different 35mm films were redscaled and showed in comparison to the normally exposed film. Results are demonstrated over different exposure degrees as to create a guide on how to achieve certain looks without any digital intervention. Films from Kodak, Fujifilm, Agfa, Rollei, Lomography, Cinestill, Revolog, Kono, dubblefilm, Yodica, Ilford, and other manufacturers were used.
Even if you are not as interested in the technique itself, the photos follow different topics for different film categories and explore places in Luxembourg, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.

Have a look at www.instagram.com/redscalereview/ to see photo examples and more photos of the book. The photos inside the book are unpublished.

Thank you for supporting me by being interested in this project. This has been a project of passion for me and I have been working on it for the last 2 years alongside my biology studies.

Photos and design by Lena Schaack, self-published.
